Patent data

Way back in 2000/2001 we got in touch with an US based company called MicroPatent and integrated their services in 2002 at a larger chemical company in Germany and other to follow, including taking over their Europe Customer Support.

Later we developed a search engine using partly their data and indexing data from EPO & WPO, JPO as well as data from the patent offices in the UK, France and Germany – interesting times with tons of DVD’s 😉

In 2004 we founded a company with a product called PatMan, for patent management and own data stacks, with optimized indexes on specific fields. But this endeavor wasn’t very successful and we left the space in 2004/2005 again.

Even so after then, i always was hooked and fascinated about these area of data, the total sizes and those information in general.

With the right tools you can read out so many information about patents, it is incredible. Not only actual information from the patents itself, but also meta-information like possibly even times when a recession might be upcoming, or if a company is healthy, a.s.o.

This time, +15 years later, i will try to focus on such 2nd and 3rd level reveals as well as on patent data & information visualization in other ways then i ever did before, so stayed tuned for some experiments 🙂
